Family Update:“Stem Cell Harvesting Day 1″ Dad has been hooked up to “The Machine” for 19 minutes so far. It’s almost 11:00 am. So we are finally off and running collecting Stem Cells for Dad’s upcoming Bone Marrow Transplant. I’m happy that we got to this point in the Marrow Transplant procedure as Dad’s blood count previously was dangerously low and we were afraid of the alternate method of collecting his life giving stem cells. I brought my laptop with me to pass the time while dad watches TV next to me. The Stem Cell collection technician’s name is “Lillian” and just so happens to also live in East Northport! (Right down the Road!) It is a small world. The stem cell harvesting should take anywhere from 1 day (at best) to as long as a Week. We shall know how long the Harvesting process will take on Monday. Stay tuned.

Genetically altered aquarium GloFish in market soon

The genetically engineered pet appears to have arrived.

In a development that is likely to inspire both fascination and alarm, a Texas company said Monday that it would soon start selling a genetically engineered aquarium fish that glows in the dark.

The GloFish, as it is called, is a zebra fish containing a gene from a sea coral that makes the fish bright red under normal light and fluorescent under ultraviolet light. Zebra fish, about an inch-and-a-half long, are normally silver and black.

The company selling the fish, Yorktown Technologies, of Austin, calls the fish �a miracle of science� and said sales would begin on January 5 through pet stores
